TDS Calculator — Calculate Tax Deducted at Source on Salary, Rent, and Payments

Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) is the income tax deducted by the payer (employer, bank, tenant, client) before the payment reaches you. Different sections of the Income Tax Act prescribe different TDS rates depending on the nature of payment. Our TDS Calculator gives a quick estimate of TDS on interest (194A), contractor payments (194C), professional fees (194J), rent (194I/194IB) and commission (194H), plus a rough figure for salary (192).

Choose the payment type, enter the amount, and select PAN status. Get the TDS amount, the section under which it's deducted, and the threshold beyond which it applies. No signup, no cost.

How to Calculate TDS

1. Payment Type

Choose salary, interest, contractor payment, professional fee, rent or commission.

2. Enter Amount

Enter the gross payment amount before TDS deduction.

3. PAN Status

With a PAN, the section’s normal rate applies; without one the calculator applies 20%, the usual higher rate under Section 206AA.

4. View TDS

See TDS amount, applicable section, threshold, and net amount payable after deduction.

TDS Calculator — FAQs

Rent is covered by Section 194I (most payers) and Section 194IB (individuals and HUFs not under tax audit, on large monthly rents). Rates differ for buildings and for machinery, and both rates and thresholds have changed in recent Budgets, so check the current figures. The calculator applies its built-in rates: 10% under 194I and 5% under 194IB.

Section 194J covers professional fees, technical services and royalty, at different rates (lower for technical services), once payments to a payee cross a yearly threshold that has changed in recent Budgets. The calculator applies its built-in figures, 10% above ₹30,000, so check them against the current rules.

If your total income is below the taxable limit, submit Form 15G (under 60) or Form 15H (60+) to your bank to avoid TDS. Otherwise banks deduct TDS once your interest for the year crosses a threshold (a higher one applies to senior citizens); check the current threshold with your bank.
