Income Tax Calculator

Free income tax calculator (old regime): enter gross income, deductions such as 80C and 80D, and your age group to see your tax slab by slab, with cess.

Income Tax Calculator — Slab-wise Tax Under the Old Regime

Want a quick, transparent estimate of your income tax? Enter your gross annual income, the total of the deductions you claim (such as Section 80C and 80D) and your age group. The calculator works out your taxable income and the tax due in each slab, then applies the Section 87A rebate and the 4% health and education cess.

It uses the old tax regime’s slab rates, the regime in which deductions such as 80C and 80D reduce your taxable income. Tax rules change with each Union Budget, so treat the result as an estimate and check the current slabs on the Income Tax Department’s website before you file. To compare the old and new regimes for a salary, use our Salary Calculator.

How to Use the Income Tax Calculator

1. Enter Gross Income

Your total annual income before deductions, from salary and other sources.

2. Add Your Deductions

The total you claim as one amount, for example 80C investments (PPF, ELSS, life insurance) and 80D health insurance premiums.

3. Pick Your Age Group

Below 60, 60 to 80, or above 80: senior and super senior citizens get a higher tax-free limit under the old regime.

4. Read the Breakdown

See your taxable income, the tax in each slab, the 87A rebate, the 4% cess and the total tax.

How the Tax Is Worked Out

Taxable income = gross income − deductions. Each slice of taxable income is taxed at its slab’s rate. For a taxpayer below 60, the calculator applies: nil up to ₹2.5 lakh, 5% from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, 20% from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh and 30% above ₹10 lakh. The tax-free limit is ₹3 lakh for ages 60 to 80 and ₹5 lakh above 80. If taxable income is ₹5 lakh or less, the Section 87A rebate (up to ₹12,500) cancels the tax. A 4% cess is then added.

Example (age below 60, taxable income ₹8,00,000): nothing on the first ₹2.5 lakh, ₹12,500 on the next ₹2.5 lakh and ₹60,000 on the remaining ₹3 lakh, which makes ₹72,500. Adding the 4% cess (₹2,900) gives a total of ₹75,400.
