CAGR Calculator — Calculate Compound Annual Growth Rate

How well did your stocks, mutual funds, real estate, or business actually perform? Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) is the standard metric to compare investment returns over different time periods. It smooths out year-to-year volatility and gives you a single, meaningful annualised return number. Our CAGR Calculator computes it instantly from any start and end value over any tenure.

Enter the initial investment, final value, and time period in years. Get the exact CAGR percentage. No signup, no cost.

How to Calculate CAGR

1. Initial Value

Enter the amount you invested at the start of the period.

2. Final Value

Enter the current value or value at the end of the investment period.

3. Number of Years

Enter the time period in years (or fraction of years for partial years).

4. View CAGR

See the CAGR percentage along with absolute return and a year-by-year value projection.

CAGR Calculator Features

Precise CAGR

Uses the exact formula: ((Final ÷ Initial)^(1/Years) - 1) × 100. Decimal years are supported.

Absolute vs CAGR

See both the absolute total return and the annualised CAGR — useful for understanding compounding.

Year-Wise Projection

If the investment grew at the calculated CAGR, see what the value was at each year-end.

Multiple Currencies

Show amounts in any of 20 currency symbols, from the rupee and US dollar to the euro, pound and yen. Only the symbol changes; nothing is converted.

Visual Breakdown

A chart shows how much of the ending value is your starting amount and how much is growth.

CAGR Calculator — FAQs

Context matters: compare a CAGR with others from the same kind of investment over the same period — an equity fund against its benchmark index, a debt fund against deposit rates, and anything against inflation. A number on its own says little.

CAGR is far more useful for comparing investments held over different periods. A 100% absolute return in 10 years (CAGR ~7%) is much weaker than a 50% absolute return in 3 years (CAGR ~14%). Always compare CAGR.

For SIPs, XIRR (Extended Internal Rate of Return) is more accurate than CAGR because investments are made at different points in time. CAGR works only when there's a single lumpsum investment with one final value.
