SWP Calculator — Plan Systematic Withdrawals from Your Mutual Fund Corpus

Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) is the reverse of SIP — instead of investing every month, you withdraw a fixed amount monthly while the rest stays invested and grows. SWP is the go-to strategy for retirees, parents needing recurring expenses, or anyone wanting a tax-efficient income stream from a lumpsum corpus. Our SWP Calculator shows how long your corpus will last and the final balance.

Enter the initial corpus, monthly withdrawal amount, expected return, and tenure. See how the corpus depletes (or grows), withdrawals received, and remaining balance year by year. No signup, no cost.

How to Use the SWP Calculator

1. Initial Corpus

Enter your retirement corpus or accumulated mutual fund balance you want to draw from.

2. Monthly Withdrawal

Enter how much you want to withdraw each month for living expenses or recurring needs.

3. Expected Return

Enter the annual return you expect on the money that stays invested — for example 8%. These are assumptions, not guaranteed returns.

4. View Schedule

See the total withdrawn, the balance left and a year-by-year schedule, which stops early if the money runs out.

SWP Calculator Features

Corpus Sustainability

If the corpus runs out before the end of the tenure, the schedule stops in the year it does, so you can see how long the money lasts at your withdrawal.

Month-by-Month Calculation

The balance is worked out month by month: a month’s return is added, then your withdrawal is taken out. The schedule adds the months up into years.

Year-Wise Schedule

Detailed table showing opening balance, withdrawals, gains, and closing balance every year.

Visual Breakdown

A chart shows your starting corpus, the returns it earned and what is left at the end.

Multiple Currencies

Show amounts in any of 20 currency symbols, from the rupee and US dollar to the euro, pound and yen. Only the symbol changes; nothing is converted.

SWP Calculator — FAQs

Each SWP withdrawal is treated as a redemption of mutual fund units, and only the gain portion is taxed, not the principal. Gains on equity funds held for more than a year are long-term capital gains, with a yearly exemption; debt fund gains are generally taxed at your slab rate. The rates and the exemption change with the Budget, so check the current ones. This calculator shows amounts before tax.

There is no single safe rate. A common rule of thumb is to withdraw about 4% of the corpus a year, but it depends on your returns, inflation and how long the money must last. Higher rates risk depleting your corpus too soon, especially during market downturns — try a few withdrawal amounts here to see how long the corpus lasts.

SWP gives you a fixed predictable monthly amount. Dividends are at the AMC's discretion and amount varies. After Budget 2020, dividends are also taxed at slab rate, making SWP usually more tax-efficient for retirees.
