Image Compressor

Compress JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Hit an exact target size (“under 100 KB” for UIDAI, Income Tax and visa portals), or set quality and let Smart mode pick the smallest of JPEG/WebP/AVIF. In quality mode it never returns a larger file. It also keeps transparency safe (no black boxes), respects photo orientation, strips private EXIF data, and batch-compresses to a ZIP — with a before/after slider to check quality.

Image Compressor

Target-size accurate and smart-format, never larger in quality mode — private in your browser.

Image Compressor — Exact Target Size and Smart Format

A 4 MB photo from your phone is overkill for WhatsApp, Gmail attachments, or website use. Government portals like UIDAI, Income Tax e-filing, and bank KYC require photos under 100 KB or 200 KB. This Image Compressor reduces JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP file sizes dramatically while keeping the image visually crisp — entirely in your browser, with nothing uploaded.

Two modes: set a quality level and optionally let Smart format pick the smallest of JPEG/WebP (and AVIF where your browser supports it) — or set an exact target size like 100 KB and the tool binary-searches quality (and shrinks dimensions when needed) until each image fits the budget. In quality mode it never returns a file larger than your original, and in every mode it never turns transparency into black boxes, keeps photos upright (EXIF orientation), and strips private metadata like GPS location. No signup, no watermark, no cost.

How to Compress Images

1. Upload Images

Drop JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF files — single or batch. Files stay on your device.

2. Pick Quality or Target Size

Choose a quality level (with High/Balanced/Small presets), or switch to Target size and enter 50/100/200/500 KB for portal uploads. Optionally cap dimensions or change format.

3. Compress & Compare

Each image is encoded with high-quality scaling. Drag the before/after slider to inspect the result at full size before downloading.

4. Download

Save images individually or all at once as a ZIP. Adjust settings and re-compress without re-uploading.

Image Compressor Features

Exact Target File Size

Enter 100 KB and get ≤100 KB: the compressor binary-searches encoder quality, and shrinks dimensions if quality alone can't fit the budget — crucial for UIDAI, tax and exam portal uploads.

Never Larger in Quality Mode

In quality mode, if re-encoding can't beat your original file (common with already-optimized PNGs), you get your original back, labelled “already optimized” — naive compressors routinely inflate PNGs.

Smart Format Selection

Smart mode encodes JPEG and WebP (plus AVIF where your browser can) and keeps the smallest. Images with transparency automatically avoid JPEG so nothing is lost.

Before / After Slider

A draggable comparison slider shows the original and compressed image overlaid, so you can verify quality before downloading.

Batch + ZIP + Re-compress

Compress many images with the same settings, download as a ZIP, and tweak settings to re-compress without re-adding files. Photo orientation is corrected automatically.

Free and Private

All processing in your browser — no uploads, no signup, no watermark. EXIF metadata including GPS location is stripped from compressed output.

Image Compressor — FAQs

Switch to Target size mode and enter the limit (or tap a preset). The tool searches for the highest quality that fits at or under the byte budget; if even minimum quality is too big, it steps the dimensions down until it fits. Each result shows its final size so you can confirm before uploading to the portal.

At quality 70-90, most viewers can't tell the difference. Below 50 you may start to see artifacts. Use the before/after slider to check — drag it across faces and text, which show artifacts first. Downscaling uses stepped high-quality resampling, so resized images stay crisp instead of muddy.

WebP is typically 25-35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality; AVIF smaller still (AVIF export depends on your browser — the option appears when supported). Smart mode simply tries them and keeps the smallest. Use JPG when a portal or old system demands it; PNG for lossless graphics, sharp-edged screenshots and transparency.

Transparency is preserved in PNG/WebP output; if you convert to JPG (which has no transparency) the transparent areas are filled with a colour you pick — white by default, never black boxes. Animated GIFs are detected and clearly flagged: compression keeps only the first frame, so the tool tells you instead of silently destroying the animation.

Completely free — no signup, no watermark. Compression runs entirely in your browser; images never leave your device. Private EXIF metadata such as GPS location is stripped from the output as a side benefit.
