APY Calculator — Find the Real Annual Yield of Your Savings

APY (annual percentage yield) is the return you actually earn in a year once compounding is counted. Banks usually quote a nominal annual rate (APR) and add interest monthly or quarterly, so your money grows a little faster than the headline rate suggests. This calculator converts any APR into its APY for annual, semi-annual, quarterly, monthly or daily compounding, and shows how a deposit grows year by year.

Use it to compare savings accounts, fixed deposits and other accounts that compound at different intervals: whichever has the higher APY pays more, whatever its headline rate.

Looking for the Atal Pension Yojana? In India “APY” is also the government pension scheme. This page calculates annual percentage yield; Atal Pension Yojana contributions come from a fixed scheme table based on your joining age and chosen pension, which this calculator does not model.

How to Use the APY Calculator

1. Enter the Principal

The amount you deposit or invest at the start. Pick your currency from the list.

2. Set the Annual Rate (APR)

The nominal yearly interest rate your bank or fund quotes, before compounding.

3. Choose the Compounding

How often interest is added: annually, semi-annually, quarterly, monthly or daily.

4. Set the Period

How many years the money stays invested. You get the APY, the final balance and the interest earned, with a year-wise table and a chart.

The APY Formula, With an Example

APY = (1 + r ÷ n)n − 1, where r is the annual rate as a decimal and n is the number of times interest is compounded in a year. The balance after t years is P × (1 + r ÷ n)n × t, where P is the principal.

8% APR compoundedAPY
Annually (n = 1)8.00%
Semi-annually (n = 2)8.16%
Quarterly (n = 4)8.24%
Monthly (n = 12)8.30%
Daily (n = 365)8.33%

So ₹1,00,000 at 8% compounded monthly grows to about ₹1,48,985 in five years, ₹48,985 of it interest. At the same 8% compounded once a year it would reach ₹1,46,933.

APY Calculator — FAQs

APR is the nominal yearly rate before compounding. APY is the effective rate after compounding: with monthly compounding, an 8% APR becomes an APY of about 8.30%. When interest is compounded only once a year, APR and APY are the same.

Yes, for the same APR, but the extra shrinks quickly. At 8%, moving from monthly to daily compounding adds only about 0.03 percentage points a year.

No. This page calculates annual percentage yield. Atal Pension Yojana contributions come from a fixed government table based on your joining age (18 to 40) and the pension you choose; check the scheme’s official pages or your bank for the current table.
