How is Loan Eligibility Calculated?

Loan eligibility is primarily determined by a bank or lender's assessment of your ability to repay the loan. A key factor is your debt-to-income (DTI) ratio, which compares your total monthly debt payments to your monthly income. Lenders want it below a limit, so you have enough income left to make the new EMI comfortably; this calculator uses 50%.

The calculation first works out your maximum affordable EMI: 50% of your monthly income, minus the EMIs you already pay. From there, the calculator works backwards using the interest rate and loan tenure to determine the maximum principal amount you can borrow.

Loan Eligibility Calculator — How Much Loan Can You Get

Before you apply for a home loan, car loan, or personal loan, the most important question is: how much will the bank actually approve? Lenders calculate eligibility based on your monthly income, existing EMIs, age, and an FOIR (Fixed Obligations to Income Ratio) cap. Our Loan Eligibility Calculator estimates the maximum loan amount you qualify for in seconds.

Enter your monthly income, existing EMIs, expected interest rate, and tenure. Get an instant estimate of your eligible loan amount, assuming up to 50% of your income can go towards EMIs. No signup, no cost.

Loan Eligibility Calculator — FAQs

FOIR (Fixed Obligations to Income Ratio) is the percentage of monthly income that goes towards servicing debt. Lenders set their own FOIR limits, which vary with the loan and your income; this calculator uses 50%. Above a lender’s limit, an application is likely to be turned down.

Yes. A CIBIL score above 750 typically gets you the best eligibility and rates. A score below 650 may lead to rejection or higher interest rates. The calculator estimates the maximum amount based on income; CIBIL determines whether you actually get the loan.

Pay off existing loans to lower FOIR, add a co-applicant (especially earning spouse), choose a longer tenure (lowers EMI), or improve your CIBIL score by paying credit card bills on time. Even small changes can significantly increase the eligible amount.
