GST Calculator — FAQs

Since 22 September 2025, GST has two main rates: 5% (the merit rate) and 18% (the standard rate), plus a 40% rate for a short list of luxury and sin goods. Some items are exempt (0%), a few have special rates such as 3% on gold, and certain tobacco products kept their old rates for a transition period. Check the rate for your item on the CBIC GST portal.

CGST goes to the Central government and SGST to the State government — both apply on intra-state sales (split equally). IGST applies on inter-state sales and goes to the Central government, which then shares it with the destination state.

Base price = Inclusive amount × 100 / (100 + GST rate). For example, if the inclusive price is ₹1,180 at 18% GST, the base is ₹1,000 and GST is ₹180. The calculator does this automatically in "Remove GST" mode.
