NSC Calculator — Calculate National Savings Certificate Maturity

National Savings Certificate (NSC) is a Government of India backed savings scheme available at all post offices. It has a fixed 5-year tenure, interest compounded annually at a rate the government sets every quarter (the calculator starts at 7.7%; check the current rate), and investments qualify for a Section 80C deduction under the old tax regime. Our NSC Calculator gives you the exact maturity amount and year-wise interest accrual.

Enter the investment amount and current NSC interest rate. See the maturity amount, total interest earned, and annual interest accrual (which qualifies for additional 80C deduction in subsequent years). No signup, no cost.

How to Calculate NSC Maturity

1. Investment Amount

Enter the amount you want to invest (from ₹1,000). There is no upper limit on NSC, though the 80C deduction is capped.

2. Interest Rate

Enter the NSC rate in force when you invest — the government sets it every quarter. The calculator starts at 7.7%.

3. Fixed 5-Year Tenure

NSC has a fixed 5-year lock-in. The calculator uses this automatically.

4. View Maturity

See maturity amount, total interest, and annual interest accrual eligible for 80C reinvestment.

NSC Calculator — FAQs

Yes, NSC interest is taxable as Income from Other Sources. However, the interest accrued in years 1-4 is treated as reinvested and qualifies for fresh 80C deduction. Only the final year's interest (year 5) is fully taxable in your hands.

Generally no. Premature withdrawal is allowed only in special circumstances — death of the holder, court order, or when used as collateral. Plan your investment knowing the 5-year lock-in is firm.

NSC has a 5-year lock-in (vs 15 for PPF) and a fixed, government-set rate; compare it with current tax-saver FD rates before you choose. PPF wins on tax-free maturity (NSC’s interest is taxable), but NSC has a much shorter lock-in.
