Gratuity Calculator — Calculate Your Gratuity Amount on Resignation or Retirement

Gratuity is a lumpsum amount paid by your employer when you leave the company after at least 5 years of continuous service. It's a thank-you payment for your years of work, governed by the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972. Our Gratuity Calculator gives you the exact amount you're entitled to based on your last drawn salary and years of service.

Enter your last drawn basic salary, dearness allowance, and years of service. Get the gratuity payable and a year-by-year table of how it builds up. No signup, no cost.

How to Calculate Gratuity

1. Last Drawn Salary

Enter the last basic salary plus DA — the calculation uses this, not the full CTC.

2. Years of Service

Enter your completed years of service. Under the Act a final part-year of more than six months counts as a full year; the calculator doesn’t round, so round up yourself if that applies.

3. Employer Type

Choose if your employer is covered under the Gratuity Act — this slightly changes the formula.

4. View Gratuity

See the gratuity payable, the service years used and a year-by-year table of how your gratuity builds up.

Gratuity Calculator Features

Both Formulas

Supports the formula for employers covered under the Gratuity Act and those not covered.

Visual Breakdown

The amount is capped at ₹20 lakh, the most the law allows, with a note when the formula gives more. A chart shows your gratuity against that ceiling.

Eligibility Check

Below 5 years of service the calculator shows no gratuity, as the Act requires. (Courts have sometimes accepted 4 years and 240 days; the calculator doesn’t.)

Standard Formula

Covered employers: last basic + DA × 15 × years of service ÷ 26. Employers not covered: the same, divided by 30.

Year-Wise Breakdown

A table shows how your gratuity builds up with each year of service, from year 5.

Gratuity Calculator — FAQs

You become eligible after completing 5 years of continuous service with the same employer. Some courts have ruled that 4 years and 240 days in the fifth year also qualifies (this calculator uses the 5-year rule). Death or disability bypasses the 5-year requirement.

For employers covered under the Gratuity Act: (Last drawn basic + DA) × 15 × Years of service ÷ 26. For non-covered employers: Last drawn salary × 15 × Years of service ÷ 30. The 26 represents working days in a month (assumed for covered employers).

Government employees: fully exempt. Private sector: exempt up to a lifetime limit under Section 10(10); anything above it is taxed at your slab rate. The exemption is the lowest of the actual gratuity, the formula amount and that limit, which can change, so check the current figure.
