Remove Extra Spaces

Paste your text — it's cleaned instantly. No settings to figure out. It fixes double spaces, tidies messy line breaks, and removes the invisible junk that Word and websites leave behind (the non-breaking spaces that ordinary space removers can't even see). Everything happens in your browser.

Remove Extra Spaces

Paste, and it's cleaned — including the invisible junk other tools miss.

Remove Extra Spaces — Including the Junk You Can't See

Copy-pasting from PDFs, Word, emails and web pages introduces double spaces, trailing spaces, stray tabs and ragged blank lines. But the real problem is usually invisible: that “space” often isn't a space at all — it's a non-breaking space (U+00A0), or one of a dozen other unicode spaces. A tool that just replaces two spaces with one never touches them, which is why your text still looks broken after “cleaning”.

This cleaner normalizes every unicode space first, strips invisible characters (zero-width spaces, BOM, soft hyphens), trims every line rather than just the whole block, expands tabs before collapsing spaces so nothing is left behind, and gives you full control over blank lines. It even shows you the invisible characters and reports exactly what it found. Presets, live preview and undo included — no signup, no cost.

How to Clean Your Text

1. Paste or Import

Paste your text or import a .txt/.md/.csv file. It cleans live as you type — nothing is uploaded.

2. It Cleans Itself

No settings to configure — the cleaning happens automatically, and one plain sentence tells you what it found and fixed.

3. Want Something Else?

Three buttons: Clean up (default), Make one line, or Keep indentation for code. Fine-grained controls live under “More options” if you ever need them.

4. Copy or Download

Copy the cleaned text, download it as .txt, or apply it back to the input to keep working. Undo restores the previous version.

What Gets Cleaned

Non-Breaking & Unicode Spaces

The big one. U+00A0 non-breaking spaces from Word and HTML, plus en/em/thin/narrow and ideographic spaces, are normalized to real spaces — then collapsed. Ordinary tools can't match these at all.

Invisible Characters

Zero-width spaces (U+200B), byte-order marks (U+FEFF) and soft hyphens (U+00AD) are stripped — and you can switch on a view that renders every one of them visibly.

Per-Line Trimming

Trims leading and trailing whitespace on every line, not just the whole block. Or choose trailing-only to strip line-end whitespace while keeping your code's indentation.

Spaces, Tabs & Punctuation

Multiple spaces collapse to one, tabs are expanded before collapsing (so nothing is left behind), and “hello , world !” can be fixed to “hello, world!” — while decimals like 3.14 stay untouched.

Safe for Hindi, Arabic & Emoji

Zero-width joiners are meaningful in Devanagari and Arabic, and emoji like 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 are built from them. They are preserved by default, so your text isn't silently corrupted — removing them is a separate, opt-in choice.

Private and Free

Runs entirely in your browser with live preview and undo. Blank lines can be kept, collapsed or removed, and text can be joined into a single line. No signup needed.

Remove Extra Spaces — FAQs

Because those gaps usually aren't ordinary spaces. Word and web pages produce non-breaking spaces (U+00A0) and other unicode spaces, which a “replace two spaces with one” rule never matches. This tool converts all of them to real spaces before collapsing, and reports exactly how many it found so you can see the difference.

Zero-width spaces (U+200B), byte-order marks (U+FEFF) and soft hyphens (U+00AD) take up no visual room but silently break search, string comparison, sorting and layout — and inflate your character count. Switch on “show invisible characters” to see every space, tab, line break and problem character rendered on screen.

No. Zero-width joiners (ZWNJ/ZWJ) look like invisible junk but are genuine letters-joiners in Devanagari and Arabic, and modern emoji such as 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 are literally built from them. Blunt tools that strip every zero-width character corrupt this text; here joiners are kept by default and removing them is a clearly-labelled, opt-in option.

Yes — click the Keep indentation button. That removes end-of-line whitespace and normalizes line endings while leaving your leading indentation and inner spacing exactly as they are. The default Clean up mode, by contrast, trims both ends of every line — something tools that simply call trim() on the whole block never do.

Completely free — no signup needed. Everything runs in your browser as you type; no text is ever sent to a server. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or apply it back to the input, and undo restores your previous text at any time.
