Hash Generator

Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA3-256, SHA3-512, RIPEMD-160 and CRC32 hashes for text or files. Files stream in chunks so even multi-gigabyte files hash without crashing. HMAC, hex/Base64 output, and hash verification — 100% in your browser.

Hash Generator — MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2, SHA-3, RIPEMD-160 & CRC32 Calculator

Cryptographic hashes are everywhere in software development — verifying file integrity, generating unique identifiers, signing API requests, and checking downloaded files. Our Hash Generator computes ten algorithms — MD5, SHA-1, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA3-256, SHA3-512, RIPEMD-160 and CRC32 — over any text or file, entirely in your browser. Every algorithm is verified byte-for-byte against the official NIST test vectors and the output of standard libraries, so the results are exactly what your server or command line would produce.

It also does what most online tools can't: hash files of any size. Rather than loading the whole file into memory (which crashes the browser on large files), it streams the file in chunks through a background worker, so a multi-gigabyte ISO hashes with a live progress bar and no crash. Add an HMAC secret key, switch the output between hex and Base64, or paste a checksum to verify integrity. No signup, no cost.

How to Generate a Hash

1. Paste Text or Upload File

Paste any string or upload a file (any size, any format).

2. Auto-Compute

Every selected algorithm runs at once — text updates live as you type; files stream through a worker with a progress bar.

3. View & Copy

Each hash appears in hex or Base64. Click to copy one, or copy them all. Toggle HMAC and enter a key for keyed hashes.

4. Compare

Optional: paste an expected hash to instantly verify integrity match (turns green) or mismatch (red).

Hash Generator Features

Ten Algorithms

MD5, SHA-1, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA3-256, SHA3-512, RIPEMD-160 and CRC32 — including the SHA-3 family that the browser's built-in crypto can't do.

Streams Any File Size

Files are read in chunks through a background worker, so a multi-GB ISO or video hashes with a live progress bar and bounded memory — where tools that buffer the whole file simply crash.

NIST-Verified Accuracy

Every algorithm is checked against the official test vectors and standard-library output. UTF-8 text (emoji, non-Latin scripts) is hashed exactly as your server would.

HMAC & Output Encodings

Add a secret key for keyed HMAC over text or files, and switch output between hexadecimal (lower/upper), Base64 and Base64URL.

Verify Mode

Paste an expected checksum; it auto-detects the likely algorithm by length and tells you instantly whether your text or file matches.

Free and Private

Everything is computed in your browser — text, files and secret keys never leave your device. No signup, no tracking, no limits.

Hash Generator — FAQs

No. MD5 and SHA-1 are cryptographically broken and shouldn't be used for security-sensitive purposes (passwords, signatures). They're still fine for non-security checksums and unique IDs. Use SHA-256 or higher for security.

Don't use plain SHA-256 for passwords. Use a password-specific algorithm like bcrypt, scrypt, or Argon2 with a salt. These are intentionally slow to defeat brute-force attacks. Use this tool only for general hashing, not password storage.

Most software publishers list the SHA-256 hash of their downloads. Upload the file here, copy the SHA-256 output, and compare with the published value. A mismatch means the file is corrupted or tampered with.

Both produce a 256-bit hash, but they use completely different internal designs. SHA-256 belongs to the SHA-2 family (a Merkle–Damgård construction); SHA3-256 is Keccak, a "sponge" construction standardised as SHA-3 in 2015 and immune to the length-extension weakness of SHA-2. Because the designs differ, the same input gives entirely different digests — they are not interchangeable. Most browsers' built-in crypto can't compute SHA-3 at all; this tool does, with a verified implementation.

Yes. The file is read in 8 MB chunks and fed incrementally to each algorithm in a background worker, so memory stays flat no matter how big the file is — multi-gigabyte files work fine. HMAC (Hash-based Message Authentication Code) combines a hash with a secret key to prove both integrity and authenticity; it's what APIs use to sign requests (for example webhook signatures). Toggle HMAC, enter your key, and the keyed hash is computed for your text or file. HMAC isn't defined for CRC32, so that row is skipped in HMAC mode.

Yes, completely free. No signup, no limits, and everything runs locally in your browser.
