PDF to OCR

Make scanned PDFs searchable — accurately, privately, in your browser.

PDF to OCR — Make Scanned Documents Searchable and Selectable

A scanned PDF is just a picture of text. You cannot search it, copy from it, or extract data from it. Every time you need a number from a scanned invoice or a name from a scanned contract, you end up retyping it manually. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) solves this by reading the image and adding an invisible text layer on top, making every word searchable, selectable, and copy-pasteable.

Our PDF to OCR tool processes each page of your scanned document, recognizes the text in 40 languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other Indian languages, and outputs a fully searchable PDF that looks identical to the original but with selectable text underneath — and the hidden text layer works in every script, not just English: Devanagari, Tamil, Cyrillic, Arabic, and Chinese text is embedded with a Unicode font subset so it stays searchable in any PDF reader. Everything runs inside your browser, so your file is never uploaded. No signup, no watermark, no cost.

How PDF to OCR Works

The engine scans each page, identifies characters using neural network recognition, and embeds an invisible text layer that aligns perfectly with the visible text in the image.

1. Select Scanned PDF

Drop a scanned document, photographed page, or image-based PDF straight from your device. It stays on your computer.

2. Select Language(s)

Choose one or more document languages for best accuracy. Supports English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, and 40 languages in total.

3. Recognize Text

Neural OCR reads every character on every page. An invisible text layer is aligned over the original image so the document looks unchanged.

4. Download Searchable PDF

The output is a standard PDF with selectable, searchable, copy-pasteable text — or plain text / hOCR if you prefer. Your original never left your device.

Why You Need OCR for Scanned PDFs

Without OCR, a scanned PDF is a dead-end. You cannot search it, extract data from it, or use it in any automated workflow. OCR unlocks the text inside.

Full-Text Search

Find any word instantly with Ctrl+F. No more scrolling through 50 pages of a scanned contract looking for a single clause.

Copy and Paste

Select text and paste it into emails, spreadsheets, or other documents. No more retyping numbers from scanned invoices.

40 Languages

Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, and dozens of major world languages — pick several at once for mixed-script pages.

Invoice and Receipt Processing

Scan receipts and invoices become extractable data. Pull amounts, dates, and vendor names without manual entry.

Legal Document Archiving

Courts and compliance systems require searchable PDFs. OCR converts scanned legal documents into the accepted format.

Private and Free

No signup, no watermark, no cost. OCR runs 100% in your browser, so your document never touches a server.

PDF to OCR — FAQs

No. The output looks identical to the original. OCR adds an invisible text layer behind the image, so the visual appearance is unchanged but the text is now selectable and searchable.

Accuracy depends on the scan: clean, straight scans of printed text at 200 DPI or more give the best results. Handwritten text, very low resolution scans, or heavily skewed images may produce lower accuracy. Selecting the correct language improves results.

Yes. The language menu includes Devanagari (Hindi, Marathi), Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, and Punjabi (Gurmukhi). Select the appropriate language — or tick several at once for pages that mix, say, English and Hindi — before processing for best results. And unlike most OCR tools, the searchable-PDF output keeps these scripts selectable and searchable: a Unicode font subset is embedded automatically whenever non-Latin text is detected.

Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermark. Process as many scanned pages as you need.
